8th Annual BSR Spring (Mother's Day Dam) Campout

The 8th Annual Big Sioux Rider Spring (Mother’s Day Dam) Campout will be Saturday and Sunday, May 8th and 9th (Mother’s Day weekend). This is an informal campout. Even though we can’t guarantee it won’t snow, friends and fellow riders are invited to join us at Randal Creek Recreation Area near the Fort Randall Dam, Pickstown, South Dakota.

A $10 fee will cover includes camping, firewood and a park vehicle permit fee. Passengers are $5. We will dine as a group at the Fort Randal Casino just east of Pickstown Saturday evening and for breakfast Sunday morning. We will provide some-mores Saturday evening and coffee both Saturday and Sunday to help keep everyone warm. Please bring your own coffee mug.

We can’t reserve camping spaces in advance, but there are very few campers (if any) in this park this time of year. If you get to the campground before us, please grab some camping spaces near the cabins and restroom/showers (sites #27E and #28E). The restrooms are modern with showers. Park rules allow us to have up to 6 campers per site. We will settle with the park ranger Saturday evening.

For those interested in riding together from Sioux City to the campout, meet at Bak BMW in Sioux City, IA 10 AM Saturday morning. Alternately meet us lunch at the Flyway Cafe at the intersection of Highways 12 and 14 in Niobrara, NE Saturday around noon.

There are four camping cabins are available at this campground for $35 per night (plus a $5 non-resident fee for non South Dakota residents). Cabins include a bunk bed (2 singles) and a double bed. You must supply your own bedding (e.g. a sleeping bag and pillow). Reserve cabins in advance at (800) 710-2267. Make sure you provide the campground location which is the “Randal Creek Recreation Area" near Pickstown, SD.

Track Day in Glenwood, IA

From Tom Schelff in an email to Omaha Flatlanders : "Would you be interested in a track day at the MidAmerica complex down by Glenwood, IA? If so please let Jim Gaston know. BMW is sponsoring a track day and while the details are not clear it sounds pretty fun. This would be the only track day in the central part of the country so BMW riders from all over would be coming. I'm sure more details will be coming but if you are interested let Jim know so he can get your name on the list as registration will be limited."

Benefit for Elmer Anderson

Most of us just know him as simply Elmer. He's a member of several BMW clubs and he is one of guys whom I look forward to seeing at BMW Rally's. Elmer has always had a good story or two. I have enjoyed listening to him talk about historical highways and roadside landmarks for years. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I know on the Lincoln Highway. Through his career, he has had a hand in building and rebuilding many of the great highways we ride on in Iowa, making sure they were built right. - Frump

12 Things My Motorcycle Has Taught Me

I received the following email from BSR member Dale N. His father recently passed away, so this email is probably a good indication that he is keeping his spirits up.

  1. The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rear view mirror.
  2. Four wheels move the body; two wheels move the soul.
  3. I'd rather be riding my motorcycle and thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
  4. Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 75 mph.
  5. Midnight bugs taste just as bad as noon time bugs.
  6. Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of gas before you can think straight.
  7. A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
  8. Young riders pick a destination and go; old riders pick a direction and go.
  9. When you're riding lead, don't spit.
  10. Catching a yellow jacket in your shirt at 75 mph can double your vocabulary.
  11. If you can't get it going with bungee cords and duct tape, it's serious.
  12. Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

BMW Motorrad USA returns to Miller to support two BMW Super Bike racing teams

BMW Motorrad USA is Offering Special Package for the World Super Bike Race in Salt Lake City, UT - May 27th - 29th, 2010

On Friday, February 19th this offer will be available to all BMW owners.

Last year the 200 BMW Special SBK Packages we offered were taken within three days; this year we are offering 1,000 slots in order to accommodate what is likely to be very strong demand.

World Superbike racing was on four continents and thirteen countries in 2009, and on May 29, 2010, the action starts at Miller Motorsport Park in Tooele, UT. Be a part of the live action weekend with a special BMW Motorrad ticket package that includes:

* Entry to the Salt Lake City Bike Bash on Thursday night, May 27th, featuring a performance by the incredible world-famous Streetbike Freestyle performers.

* Three days (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) access to special BMW rider seating at the Stansbury Grandstands.
* Three days of access to the Racing Paddock.
* Lunches, snacks and beverages Friday - Sunday in the BMW Hospitality Village adjacent to the Stansbury Grandstands.
* Exclusive access to the BMW hospitality area for closed-circuit race viewing.

* Preferred views of BMW Streetbike Freestyle shows on Saturday and Sunday.

* Exclusive autograph sessions with S 1000 RR racers Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus.

* BMW Motorsports gift bag

* Preferred parking

Don't miss out on your chance to be one of BMW's special guests in Utah this year. This package is normally valued at over $260 and that doesn't get you autographs from BMW WSB racers or from world famous Streetbike Freestyler champions.

Special BMW Ticket Packages are $195 each. If you order by phone there will be a fixed processing fee of $9.00/order; if via the website, processing fees are $9.00/order and $24.00/ticket package. 1,000 SBK Ticket Packages may seem like a lot, but they will go quickly - don't wait.

Pure Stodge Touring Association's 34th Annual Iowa Rally

The Pure Stodge Touring Association has announced the 34th Iowa Rally will be June 10-13, 2010 at Middle Amana Park, Middle Amana Iowa (same location as the wonderful 2009 rally). If you are a BMW Motorcycle rider from the Midwest this is one rally which you simply should not miss. Its a great rally in a one of the best locations in Iowa (my humble opinion, with authentic German food and beverages served German style).

Friday Night will be rockin’ with The Electric Mule www.electricmule.com
Saturday Night will be groovin’ with The Dynaflows www.myspace.com/thedynaflows
