20th Annual Mother's Day Campout - May 12-14th, 2023
The Spring Campout is in two days - The 20th Annual Big Sioux Rider-Autobahn Spring Campout at the Dam is Mother's Day Weekend May 12-14. The club has reserved spot 25E at Randall Creek Recreation Area near Pickstown South Dakota (below the Dam). This is the same spot we camped at for the past two years. We will expand into other spots as needed. We are allowed 6 people per spot. We are planning to serve brats, beans, chips, and desert Friday night, campfire breakfast Saturday morning, and chili, cornbread, and sides Saturday night. Coffee will also be available. We may have a cabin bunk available, but the reserved cabin is at the other end of the campground. Riders will be responsible for their own SD State Park vehicle permits this year ($8/day or buy an annual). Campout is $15/day for meals, snacks and firewood, and $10 total for tent camping (one or two days).

19th Annual Mother's Day Campout - May 13-15th, 2022
Heads up, the date of the Dam Spring Mother's Day Campout is changing to the weekend after Mother's Day - May 13th thru 15th, 2022!! Although you might think the change is related to Mother's Day, the actual reason is twofold. First of all the weather on Mother's Day hasn't been kind to us for most of the past few years. Secondly, the weekend after Mother's Day has opened up in recent years, so it works better for all those Moms, Mom Lovers and GRR Rider/Campers out there.

We are returning to (Fort) Randall Creek Recreation Area south dam near Pickstown, SD. That is the state campground below the dam. Cabin B and site 25E are reserved. Another member has reserved Cabin A. Each cabin has 3 bunks. There are other cabins further away. Let me know if you want a cabin bunk. Put your tent up on 26E. Six tents per site. Grab adjoining site if out of space.
The club will be cooking dinner Friday and Saturday nights, breakfast on Saturday morning (and maybe Sunday), and lunch on Saturday. Hot coffee will be available most of the time or on demand.

18th Annual Mother's Day Camout - May 7-9
The "18th Annual Mother's Day Big Sioux Riders/Autobahn Camp Out" will be on May 7-9th in 2021. The Camp Out starts on Friday afternoon as in recent years. Everyone is welcome to stay and camp with us Friday and/or Saturday. We are going back to the (Fort) Randall Creek Recreation Area south dam near Pickstown, SD.
Friday dinner will be brats, Frump’s magic beans, chips and dessert. Saturday dinner will be Jack’s chili, cornbread, chips and desert at the camp ground. We will also cook breakfast Saturday morning if the weather cooperates. Free, hot coffee will be provided the whole weekend. Bring your own beverages. This is a low key gathering, Cost is $25 for one night or $30 for both nights people camping in our reserved spots which includes motorcycle/vehicle permit, firewood, and a space for your tent. Our goal is to break even. If you have an RV (with a spot), cabin or stay at the hotel, it's $10/night per person, but you have to get your own vehicle permit and camping spot/cabin. We have spots 25E and 27E reserved, put your tent up in those spots and on 26E if it is available.
If you are camping with us in the reserved spots, tell the park staff at the entrance you are with us and we will settle with them when they bring the fire wood. If you have an RV, cabin or hotel room, you will need to pay for your own spot and vehicle permit. If you are camping but forced to get vehicle permits at the gate, let us know and we will take that off your price. Please email me (flyer details) a few days ahead of time if you are coming.
This a good time for everyone to get out and get their tires warmed up. Friends and all riders of any kind are welcome. We'll post more details in the next few weeks.

BS Riders February 2020 News
The Chili & Soup Contest will replace the regular club meeting this month. The BSR Chili and Soup contest, which in intended to help us through the winter motorcycle blues, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd at Bak BMW. A flyer is attached to be posted it in your favorite places and on social media. Bring a chili or soup, or pay $3 to come empty handed and try a sample of each. Everyone is welcome. First prize $100.
Steve Martin reports all twelve slots are filled for the MSF Advanced Rider Class course. The BMW MOA Foundation will be paying for the training for club members. If you not a club member, please pay $20 to the Big Sioux Riders and we will make you a member for the year. If you have questions contact Steve at chicub2162@gmail.com or call him at (712) 754-0155. Training starts at 9 am Saturday, April 11th and last seven hours plus extra time. Stan Stille is working on the details for entertainment and lodging the evening before in Omaha. We will send out hotel and other details next month.
The 2020 BMW MOA National Rally is in Great Falls, MT on June 25-28, 2020. Through February you can preregister for two riders for $99 which is a pretty healthy discount. Details are here: https://rally.bmwmoa.org/registration-open/ President Anita and first husband Doug will be hosting the "Shonley National Rally Camping Invitational" in June before and after the National Rally. The BMW MOA rally in Great Falls is about a one day ride from their home near Sturgis, SD. They will provide camping spots and a nice dinner. Contact Doug at Douglas@shonley.com to make arrangements.

BS Rider January 2020 News
Riders,
Let's hope everyone has a great and safe riding season in 2020. Let's get the year started!!
First off and most importantly, Jim Hawthorne is having some health issues and is at Mercy Hospital where the doctors are trying figure out what's going on. He is room 7124 and is accepting visitors. If you get a chance, stop by and say hello. Keep Jim and Joan in your thoughts and prayers.
The club is having a chili and soup contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd at Bak BMW to help us through the winter motorcycle blues. Bring a chili or soup or pay $3, and try each of them. After sampling them, vote for the best. There will be a cash people's choice prize. Last year the prize of $100 went to Jim and Joan Hawthorne for their superb slider sandwiches. This year's prize will be similar (e.g. don't have details yet). The club will provide bowls and everything else needed. Dave will talk about and hopefully show us some new 2020 motorcycles and gear. Everyone is welcome.
Steve Martin has two of the twelve slots open, and two alternative slots available for the MSF Advanced Rider Class course which he arranged for club members on Saturday, April 11th at 9:30 a.m. The training will be at the MSF's Papillion Nebraska campus and will last about 6 hours plus breaks. With so many slots already filled, the rate will be $80 for each of us. Steve is trying to arrange to have the MOA Foundation pick up that fee, so in short, the training will most likely be free. Friends are also welcome - the MOA Foundation should pick up their class fees as well. You will need bring your own bike for the training. We will ride down to the Papillion the night before and stay at a nearby hotel. Steve will arrange a hotel so we can hang out together that evening. You can read the training brochure here: Brochure. BS Rider 2019 Christmas Party - Saturday, December 7th
The 2019 Christmas Party and Annual Meeting will be at the Pierce Mansion in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday, December 7th at 6 p.m. Bring a spouse or friend. New members are welcome.
The main course will be smoked pork brisket and a brine turkey. We are looking to have party goers bring either a side-dish or desert if they can, but it's not required. The club will supply plates, cups, and tableware. If you want something to drink beside water or coffee bring it with you. Please RSVP (brion.hase@gmail.com) if you are coming, if you are bringing a guest, and if you know what dish you are bringing.
If you wish to participate, bring something to throw into the famous white elephant gift exchange at the Christmas party. The suggested guideline is about $15 to $25. Some gifts from prior years seem to reappear every year or two. Stuffed animatronics which generated festive pop music are continually popular. There has also always been battery charger.
Voting on the Big Johnson Award and new club officers will be before the gift exchange. Be warned - people who don't show up can be nominated and elected. Even non-members can be nominated to don't be afraid to nominate family, friends and fellow riders. Club dues are $20/person or $25/family and mostly help cover expenses for the party and to cover a few minor expenses during the year.

Just a few things to cover this week.
Some call it aroma therapy, I explain it to the man as being golf league, but hopefully regardless of the excuse you are planning on using, it will warm up next week and we will be able to start our weekly Wednesday rides in earnest. Be at Bak BMW by 4 PM weekly. It's not required, but if you think you will be riding text me and I'll try to let you know if we are cancelling the ride for weather.

How often have you been able to ride with a real, live, famous celebrity? Well Steve Martin is leading a BSR ride this Saturday morning (5/4) after breakfast. Be at Bak BMW at 9:30 a.m. to join the fun. If you want to have breakfast with this funny man, be at the Garden Cafe at 14th and Jackson to eat.
Dave Bak is planning a "Bacon and Bikes" event Saturday, May 18th from 9 a.m. until noon at Bak BMW. Ask Dave if you need more detail, but usually all it takes to get me interested in something is are the works bacon and bikes.
I heard there was quite a turn out for the Martinsburg ride-in two Saturdays ago. All I can tell you is that it was in the 70's and 80's in Arkansas last week. We had one of those surreal rides Wednesday on Highway 21/221 between Russellville, AR and the Missouri boarder, the kind where you don't see traffic, just scenery and curves.

BS Rider's - Autobahn Fall Camp Out Location Finalized
Schaben Park is the place. It is a Harrison County park between Dunlap and Woodbine, located 2 miles north of Hwy 30. Brad Bergenson checked out the park last night (Sept 19th). Both Brad and the park ranger tell us the two miles of gravel leading into the park is tame and well maintained. There are full bathroom and shower facilities available. We will be cooking and we are limited to two tents per spot, so please send us an RSVP Ryan Stillie (ryan@stillnet.org) and me if you think you might be coming.

BS Rider Weekly Events and Schedule - Sept 6th
We are still doing Thursday rides and it's nearly Thursday. The weather this week looks pretty promising so there will be a ride. Meet at Bak BMW at 4:00 PM Thursday. If your gong to be there, text me at 712-253-4650 or email me at brion.hase@gmail.com.
Last Thursday's ride was to Sioux Falls for Last Thursday Bike Night. The weather didn't look like much, but cooperated and we only caught a few drops of rain as Mark and I meandered up the back roads to Sioux Falls. Dale Nordlie, Will Nordlie, Romy, Gary Johnson, Scott Vandonslear, Mark Hartzell and I had a nice meal at Marlins on Minnesota Ave,, the host of the Last Thursday Bike Night meet up. I also got to visit with Loyd Lundie, Chad and Heidi GIllen, Chad's brother Jeff, and others.
Last weekend I camped at the Woodbury Southwood Conservation Park next to Smithland. Jack Backer and his with Marleen joined me. The weather was hot and sticky. As we pulled into the park about noon Saturday, we ran into Jim Hawthorne and his grandsons who had just finished fishing at the Park. One of Jim's Grandson loaned me a fishing pole. Saturday afternoon, friend and fellow GS rider Eric Marin for Nebraska City visited us for a few hours. Eric recently finished visiting each county courthouse in Nebraska, and Jack and Marleen just finished visiting all of the courthouses in South Dakota so they compared notes. We spent a couple hours Saturday evening trying to catch some fish for dinner, with no luck. Jack cooked up some ribs he brought instead. Saturday evening we had some rain, and then again on Sunday afternoon and evening. The park there is pretty nice and the park rangers each took a close look at our Bunkhouse and Aspen motorcycle camper trailers, they had never seen them setup before. The rain stopped Monday morning so we cooked a final breakfast and then headed home. Few things in life beat sleeping in tent camper during a nice rain. It was a nice, relaxing weekend.
Labor Day weekend Jim Johnson rode up the Buffalo Rally which was in North Branch, about 45 minutes north of the Twin Cities. Jim appeared to have a good ride and finished well in the rally. I'm still waiting to hear more details about the his ride.
Tom Fountoulakis reported last Saturday that Marc Ladue is not doing well. If you can, give Marsha and Marc a call and see if you can visit him. Please keep Marc and Marsha in your thoughts and prayers.
On Friday, September 14th, the Motorcycle Cannonball ride will be stopping in Spirit Lake Iowa. We will be having a group ride up to see the riders and bikes. This is a rally which crosses the country every year on bikes built before 1929. On Saturday the bikes and riders will be heading to Pierre, SD.
Gary Johnson is trying to trim his bike herd down a bit. He has an '07 1200 Guzzi Breva with just under 14,000 miles for sale. He purchased a Triumph this spring and hasn't been able to ride it enough. Gary says it's for sale for one easy $3600 payment ("or maybe less"). It's a nice machine so if you know anyone looking for a lower touring ride this might be the bike for them. Contact him at buzzfeldspar@yahoo.com. There are a couple photos of it below. Also, Dan Lederman (dan@danlederman.org) has an old airhead and sidecar for sale (Donna Galati's old rig), it's parked near Lederman Bonds downtown.
Fall Campout. Our location in Viking State Park is not going to work. I am going to check out Willow Lake Recreation Area between Pisgha and Woodbine, IA. It appears to be a nice park with cabins and full facilities. I'll post something next week. The date of the Fall Campout will be Oct 5-7.

BS Rider Weekly Events and Schedule - Aug 14th
This week's ride will be August 15th (Wednesday - tomorrow). Steve Martin is leading the group to European Bike Night in Omaha. Meet at Bak BMW to leave at 4 PM. There will not be a Thursday ride this week.
Some of you may be going to the Beartooth Rally in Red Lodge. That Rally should be on everyone's bucket list if they haven't done it before. The roads and scenery are spectacular.
Because of work and other issues, I didn't make it the Husker Rally. I know at least some of you did. The weather was warm, but tolerable this year. I missed the sweet corn and dirty rice.
The Marne Open House and Campout in the city park is this weekend - I will be there. That is one of my annual favorites. This year a group of us have taken it upon ourselves to project a movie in the city park under the stars Saturday evening - "The Big Lebowski" has been selected. There may be a second feature as well. There may or may not be homebrew too. Your welcome to come and camp with us (flush toilets, but no showers), or hang out and get a motel room on Walnut or Atlantic - bring a chair. The motorcycle show with free lunch at noon on Sunday is also worth trying out. Demo rides all day Saturday and Sunday, auction Saturday.

BS Riders Weekly Ride August 9th and August 15th
There will be a weekly ride again this Thursday at 4 PM. Meet at Bak BMW. Ride will be to BBQ in Norfolk or Le Mars.

BS Riders Weekly Rides Heads Up
Starting this week, the weekly ride will switch from Wednesdays to Thursdays. This change gives folks with schedule conflicts on Wednesday a chance to ride on Thursdays. Also, some places we visit are only open on Thursday. We will still meet at Bak BMW at 4 PM with SSU at 4:05. You can text me at 712-253-4650 if you are running a couple minutes late. Weekly rides will end in late September or early October depending on the weather. We have three different BBQ places I'm hoping to get to see in August and I hope you can join us.
We will have a fall campout at Viking State Park in Iowa (same place as last year, 40 miles south of Marne, IA). The campout is being organized by Ryan Stille and friends. We will probably need head count if you think you might come so we can arrange for enough spaces. Right now the plan is for October 5-7.
