No Ride Today - June 20th - Next Two Weeks

It's apparently going to rain all day and stay below 70 degrees - there will be no ride at 4 today.

Next week Lynn and Jim Johnson will be leading the ride, I won't be available.  Meet at their home on 4615 Old Lakeport Road, Sioux City at 4 PM  - https://goo.gl/maps/vkzqXEbZEKN2.  I won't be sending out an email reminder next week so please note this.

The week after that is July 4th.  Jim Johnson discussed maybe having a ride in the morning or afternoon.  Contact Jim if your interested - jimj@urban-inc.net  or  (712) 251-5215 (call or text).

Last week's stop in Cherokee - Chuck and Mark.  Jim and Lynn were also along.

After dropping off Mark in LeMars (above right), we stopped in Le Mars for ice cream... note to self - don't order a two scoop sundae.

Weekly Ride Change - May 30/31.

Hello Everyone,

Just an update on the email I sent Monday.  I am moving the regular Wednesday ride to Thursday this week to go to "Last Thursday" motorcycle meet-up in Sioux Falls.  We will meet at Bak BMW at 4 PM leaving shortly thereafter.  We will take north back roads to Sioux Falls, get there about 6 PM, and probably head back to Sioux City on the Interstate around 7:30 or so.

Not everyone can ride this Thursday and some don't like riding in the dark.  If you would like to ride tonight (Wed. May 30th) with Jim and Lynn Johnson, contact Jim at (712) 251-5215

Also, the Hiawatha Rally is this weekend near Houston MN.  If you would like to go, contact Steve Martin at (712) 574-0155

There is SSR (the local CMA Chapter) ride to Yankton Sunday morning for a meal at Jo Deans and the annual bike blessing at the dam there.  They are meeting at the Wal-Mart on Floyd Boulevard Sunday morning at 8:45.  If your interested contact Duane and Jodie Kraayenbrink at (712) 574-0934

The following weekend is the Pure Stodge Rally near Amana, Iowa - http://purestodge.org/

Weekly Rides Continue...

Weekly Rides

Weekly BSR rides continue through September 27th.   We will meet every Wednesday at Bak BMW at 4 PM and ride from there.  Tell your boss, secretary, spouse or whoever it is you tell such things too, that you are required to attend aroma therapy, lamaze classes, or golf league on Wednesday afternoons - whatever works to get you out and riding.  We will all cover for you!  If it reaches sixty degrees during the day and it's not raining, plan on riding.  Whoever shows up can determine the destination (list below).  As we did last year, we will switch to from Wednesdays to Thursday starting in August, so those poor souls who have already locked themselves into other Wednesday meetings or work schedules can still ride later in the year.

Below is a list of possible weekly ride destinations.  We have already done the orange listings.  We would  like to do Bob's Bar and Bob Dog's on a couple of Tuesdays (regular meetings).  Send me any more places you want to add to the list.

BSR Update - Ride Today @ 4

If it's not raining this afternoon, the weekly ride will be at 4 today.  Meet at Bak BMW.

Spring has finally sprung and the Spring Campout is now just ten short days away.  BBQ ribs, muffins and coleslaw are on the menu for Friday evening.  Campfire beans, brats and chips for Saturday night.  If someone wants to help with desert one evening let me know, we are still hammering those details out.  We are looking at a 150-200 mile ride on Saturday for those interested.  We quit hosting the flashlight contest a couple years ago after Doug gave us some concerns that the club might be added to a Homeland Security watch list and he was named the winner for all-time.  Since many of you don't drink or almost all of you don't smoke cigars, we are looking for ideas on what to do in the evenings around the campfire.  Please send me some ideas.   If you are thinking you will be coming to the campout, give me a heads up this week or next so I can keep a running head count for food.  Details are here: https://bigsiouxriders.blogspot.com/2018/03/15th-annual-big-sioux-rider-spring.html

Well like a lot of you, I have been pretty busy and missed calling for the March meeting.  The 2018 weather thus far has sucked so most of you are depressed, so it's probably best we don't hang out and depress each other until we can ride.  Moving on to brighter things...

Crittenton Pizza Party for the Kids
We are looking at Sunday, April 29th at 12:30 PM as the tentative date for the ride-in for the kids at the Crittenton Shelter here in Sioux City.  We take pizza and drinks to the kids.  It ussually takes about an hour and half.  It's good to hang out with the kids for a little while, eat pizza, and talk them about motorcycles and traveling.  Is also good for your karma.

15th Annual Big Sioux Rider/Autobahn Spring Campout, Mother's Day, At the Dam - May 11th - 13th, 2018

The "15th Annual Mother's Day Big Sioux Riders/Autobahn Camp Out" will be on May 11-13th in 2018.  The Camp Out starts on Friday afternoon as in recent years.  Everyone is welcome to stay and camp with us Friday and/or Saturday.  This year's location is again the Fort Randall Creek Recreation Area (SD State Park near Pickstown, SD).

We will be cooking the Friday evening dinner this year (burgers, coleslaw, chips and desert).  There will also be cooking Saturday evening at the campground (brats, kraut, campfire beans, chips, and desert).  Free, hot coffee will be provided the whole weekend.  This is a low key, low cost ($20 for one night or $25 for both - includes a 7 day SD Park motorcycle permit, wood and a space for your tent), get together and a good time for everyone to get out and get their tires warmed out.  Friends and all riders are welcome.  We'll post more details in the next few weeks.

Big Sioux Riders Jones'n Party  - Feb 23rd
Steve Martin started the Jones'n Party Tradition years ago, even before the BSR was formed.  This year Tom and Maria Fountoulakis will be hosting the party at their home on the evening of Friday, February 23rd.  Its a party where everyone brings a dish and then we sit around and passionately discuss motorcycles and motorcycling while watching motorcycle videos and old motorcycle movies.  I'll get the party details out later, but keep that night open.

Crittenden Center Pizza for Kids
Saturday, April 29th at 12:30 PM if we can get the details worked out.  This is where we take a bunch of pizza in to share with kids a shelter and let them look at our motorcycles.

Mother's Day Spring Campout at the Dam
It has been suggested that we consider having the Mother's Day Spring Campout at the Dam a week earlier on May 4-6 this year.  Send me an email weighing in on your preference. Originally that weekend conflicted with the Polk City Ride-In, but we are not sure they are running that event anymore.  You can email me your preferences at brion.hase@gmail.com

The Branson Blitz
The 2018 Blitz is scheduled for April 20-22, 2018. My assumption is that it will be at the same hotel as in the past few years.  You can read more about it here: https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?77252-Branson-Blitz-2015/page2

From Steve Martin who is trying to organize a ERC course which club members can take together
So here's the scoop on experienced rider training that is available. Sarpy County (Papillion) has two dates for the BRC2 training. April 21st and May 12th. Again these are full day training classes which start at 7:30 a.m. and run till 6 p.m. You would do this training on your own motorcycle. Final cost is still up in the air but if you want to go do not worry about the cost since there are some scholarships available and ways for us to reduce whatever the cost would be. If you are interested in either one of these training dates let me know by Saturday Feb 17th, there are only 6 slots available on either date.

Baxter Cycle - Marne, Iowa - Winter Open House
Saturday February 17th 9 AM - 5 PM

Autobahn Annual Meeting (Sioux Falls BMW Club)
The Annual Meeting is Feb 17th at 6 PM at Sioux Valley Energy Bldg, 108 N Heritage Rd, Brandon, SD.  If your interested in joining the group (you can belong to both the Autobahn and BSR), then contact Gordon Courbat at gordoncoubat@yahoo.com or (605) 351-1832 by Feb 12th.  The cost of the dinner is $12.50/person and  their annual dues are $15 per family.
