Monthly Meetings
The Big Sioux Riders meet monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 PM. New members are always welcome. Drop by and introduce yourself. Regular meeting are held September through May. Other meetings with rides are arranged during the summer months. Check schedule below for locations and dates.

Saturday Morning Meetings
Members and friends get together weekly for breakfast. Most folks show up shortly after 8 AM. We are currently meeting at the Townhouse at 18th and Dakota Ave in South Sioux City (south off of I-29 on Dakota Ave/Hwy 77 (I-29 exit #149) in downtown South Sioux City).

Dues
Our annual dues are $20 member or $25 for a family. Most of the dues go to help pay for dinner at the Christmas party and other miscellaneous costs and expenses. You can pay your dues and complete a membership form at Bak BMW Victory in Sioux City. Dave is currently our club treasurer. The 2011 Club President is Chuck Swenson, Terry Hughes is Vice-President, and Brion Hase is the Secretary. You may also pay your dues online using the PayPal link on the left.

9th Annual Big Sioux Rider Spring (Mother’s Day Dam) Campout

The 9th Annual Big Sioux Rider Spring (Mother’s Day Dam) Campout will be Saturday and Sunday, May 12th and 13th (Mother’s Day weekend). This is an informal campout. Though we can’t guarantee it won’t snow, friends and fellow riders are invited to join us at Randal Creek Recreation Area near the Fort Randall Dam, Pickstown, South Dakota.

Members receive new 2012 K1600GTs

Doug Shonley sent the following story about his first ride this past weekend on his K1600GT.

So far I have 350 miles on the new K1600GT. Thought I would give you an update that others could read. This is a wonderful motorcycle. This is also probably the most complex motorcycle I have ever ridden. I have not got all the electronics figured out yet. Reading on the forums I will probably go with the BMW Nav 4 GPS because there are a couple things that are proprietary in the connection with the bike. I will probably have to change to the SENA blue tooth headsets also. I will probably keep my Cardio head sets because of the advantage with them for group riding.

Ok, now about the bike. It is very much like the K1200GT. In fact I have a hard time telling the difference. It has the BMW feel in the corners. Just very solid and predictable. I started a ride up Vanocker Canyon but the road was too ice covered and sandy so I decided to do a u-turn. Being icy I decided to just baby walk the bike around. What I did find is that the handlebars really crank a long ways to the side which made the turn quite easy. Some bikes hit the stop way too soon. I believe this bike probably has the best seat of any BMW that I have had. I sat for a full three hours on it and it was noticeable, but not painful. Had an interesting experience with the fuel on this bike. I was driving out on the plains where the roads were dry and found this lonely road. In fact it said next services 33 miles. I looked at the fuel range and I had over 90 miles so no problem. Also there was an intersection at 66 miles. So off I go. I'm trying to vary my speed a bunch and not just sit at one set speed. Often dropping down to 1st and then blasting through the gears running it up to about 4000 rpm in each gear. Oh, what a wonderful sound this six cylinder bike has. I was bucking a wind and I was impressed with the windshield as it was really giving me quite good protection. If I raised it all the way up the wind would actually push on the back of my helmet. I normally have it set about an inch down from the very top. I get up to the 33 miles and being a Sunday afternoon everything was pretty well shut down. I didn't see any gas pumps either so I thought, well there has to be something up at this intersection which is only another 33 miles. So I continued having fun with the bike hitting any sweepers with a high amount of energy and loving how the bike feels. I check the fuel range and it has gone down a bunch. If fact when I get to the intersection all that is there is just the intersection and the fuel remaining is 19 miles. Hmmm. The sign says Buffalo 24 miles. This is not good. I pull into the wind and set the cruise at 52 mph. Had not used the cruise yet other than to just check that it worked. I figure that it was better to run at a constant speed rather than run out of gas. This bike has two fuel consumption meters. I had been getting 36.4 mpg doing my running up and down through the gears. I found that against the wind, strong wind at 52 mph it would usually get about 44 mpg. Calculating in my head I'm thinking well this might work. At least get me close enough I can get cell service so I could call AAA if I do run out. I keep watching the remaining miles and it drops off and show me the temperature. It had dropped below the 37 degrees and I got the snow flake on the dash. The hand grips and the seat now have five levels of heat. I had the hand grips all the way up. I had the seat on the third level. The fifth level of the seat I couldn't keep my butt on it. Too hot, which can be a good thing. I had my Gerbing jacket on over a long sleeved T-shirt and a jean shirt. I only had my Stitch on over that. Had I planned on going so far I would have dressed warmer. Finally I come over a hill and can see Buffalo in the distance. Maybe 5 miles. The fuel range is done to 4 miles. I pull into the gas station at Buffalo with 1 mile remaining on the fuel remaining. I promptly fill with gas. I put in 6.876 gallons of gas. Hmmm that is interesting, I didn't think it had that big of tank. Now with a full tank a gas, a call to the wife telling her I'm going to be late, and a potty break I head back home. This time the wind is more behind me. The temperature drops to 32 degrees, but the grips are warm and my seat is hot and my Gerbings is doing the job. When I meet a car I slow down and then I hit it. Now running the bike up to 5000 rpm. This thing really pulls without even getting close to full throttle. Can't wait till I can do full on. Anyway, passing a car it doesn't really matter what gear you are in it just goes. By now I have most of the menus on the bike figured out and got things set how I think I am going to like them. When I have a passenger I will probably mostly run in the rain mode. I found in the dynamic mode if you hit a hard bump you will turn the throttle enough that I'm sure the passenger would probably complain. The middle mode Road is probably the best all around. I still have some things to work out with the electronics. I am making a new version of the FarkleBar just for this bike and really missed having some of my gadgets with me. This is really a great bike. Did I tell you how great a sound it has...

Christmas Party Survey and Nominations

We are trying to finalize our Annual Christmas Party plans. We are asking for everyone's input to get it right.

We are planning on a gift exchange. I'll send out details later but basically you will need a $10 to $15 gift if you want to be in the exchange. The party is free for paid club members. Non-paid members will be welcome, but there will be a modest fee to cover their meal expenses. All brands and new and returning members and riders are welcome to celebrate with us.

We need nominations for the Annual Big Johnson Award in honor of its first goofy winner – “Big” Jim Johnson. The award is voted on and given at the Annual Christmas Party to the funniest silliest faux pas or mistake during the year. Nominations should be related to motorcycles or camping and hopefully no one was seriously injured. In 2008 the club decided that people should be eligible to win this award more than once - so everyone is eligible again!! You don’t have to at the party to win, heck you don’t even have to be nominated to win. Good luck and remember, the more people you can nominate, the better your chances of not winning this award. Brion Hase will be riding a Saddle Sore 1000 on October 15th. This was something Jim Johnson originally signed up for, but due to scheduling conflict Jim cannot do it so Brion is going to pinch hit for him. It’s called the Jack Shoalmire Tribute Ride. Jack had a goal of riding a SS1000 in each of the 50 states and was nearly complete with that task when he passed away after a heart attack. There will be people riding SS1000’s in all 50 states on the 15th and they will be compiling photos and satellite tracks for Jack’s Family. Jim had signed up for the South Dakota in-state ride so we are going out through the Black Hills and back. It’s going to be a fun ride so if anyone is interested in riding with Brion, drop him a message. Galpin On Road Seminar - Sept 30 to Oct 2, 2011

I have stayed at this campground. The cabins are Spartan, but dry. Two single beds and enough room for your luggage, one light and not outlets. They used to serve a cooked breakfast on the grounds that was pretty good. The campground is within spitting distance (a few miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway.) I have taken Susan’s course with Stan. We learned a lot about riding in the right gear. As a result, both of us are better on the curves.

Pass this along to anyone you think might be interested. I will go again, if I can.

You also receive on-road coaching and we've plotted out great riding day rides in the Smokies where you can try out your new skills.

Raider Sport Touring will be hosting our Octoberfest Ride the Weekend of Sept 30 - Oct 2. ATTENDANCE IS LIMITED and we will be based out the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso, NC. You are on your own to rent a furnished cabin with linens or pop a tent!

Everyone taking Susan's seminar comments that her techniques transform them so they become more confident riders. The first coaching session will be Friday afternoon September 30. Next two sessions: morning and afternoon Saturday October 1st.

Susan as you know is techno challenged so we are acting as her secretary for this event; but feel free to contact her directly at SusanGalpin@gmail.com. She'll be leading 3 groups in 4 hour sessions that begin with her great seminar. You'll then test what you've learned on roads selected by Susan just for this event. She'll ride with you providing comments that improve your ability to ride Corner Quick.

We will pass the hat among attendees so bring a $20 bill as we want to cover Susan's expenses. That's it.

It's a late May, Friday afternoon. I sit in my office with an eye out the window towards an damp outdoors filled with fog and rain. Another good weekend shot to hell. When my computer screen background changes to a different old photo (below), thoughts wander towards past motorcycle trips. May Meeting - May 17th - Dugout in Ute, IA

Meeting Reminder - The May Meeting of the Big Sioux Riders is this Tuesday, May 17th. We will meet at the Gordon Drive HyVee at 6 PM in Sioux City and ride to the Dugout in Ute, IA. The Dugout is one of the Iowa Beef Industry Council's finalists in "Iowa's Best Burger in 2011" contest.

If you missed Gina and Omaha's open houses last weekend, never fear. Bak BMW has a K1600GTL demo bike in. Dave is encouraging riders to come in and take it for a test ride.

Big Sioux Riders Spring Campout Photos

The Eighth Annual Big Sioux Riders Spring Campout is in the bag and it was quite a success. We had a lot of members participate in one way or another, and we had some friends and fellow riders join us. The weather this year was some of the best we have ever had at this event, everything went pretty smoothly, and everyone had a fun and safe weekend.

If anyone would like to add some photos to the collection below or add comments please send them too me. The photos help document the trip and will help me remember the details in the future.

Each year I'm pretty excited about this event when it finally rolls around. It punctuates the end of winter and the beginning of the spring and summer riding and rally season. Thank you everyone who helped out and/or participated!

8th Annual Big Sioux Riders Spring (Mother's Day Dam) Campout

The 8th Annual Big Sioux Riders Spring (Mother's Day Dam) Campout will be Saturday and Sunday, May 7th and 8th (Mother’s Day weekend). This is an informal campout. Even though we can’t guarantee it won’t snow, friends and fellow riders are invited to join us at Randal Creek Recreation Area near the Fort Randall Dam, Pickstown, South Dakota.

A $10 fee will cover includes camping, firewood and a park vehicle permit fee. Passengers are $5. We will dine as a group at the Fort Randal Casino just east of Pickstown Saturday evening and for breakfast Sunday morning. We will provide some-mores Saturday evening and coffee both Saturday and Sunday to help keep everyone warm. Please bring your own coffee mug.

We can’t reserve camping spaces in advance, but there are very few campers (if any) in this park this time of year. If you get to the campground before us, please grab some camping spaces near the cabins and restroom/showers (sites #27E and #28E). The restrooms are modern with showers. Park rules allow us to have up to 6 campers per site. We will settle with the park ranger Saturday evening.

For those interested in riding together from Sioux City to the campout, meet at Bak BMW in Sioux City, IA 10 AM Saturday morning. Alternately meet us lunch at "The Dock" which is just north of the Chief Standing Bear Bridge near Niobrara (The Dock is formally in the town of Running Water, SD). Our regular stop, the Flyway Cafe in Niobrara is closed for remodeling.

There are four camping cabins are available at this campground for $35 per night (plus a $5 non-resident fee for non South Dakota residents). Cabins include a bunk bed (2 singles) and a double bed. You must supply your own bedding (e.g. a sleeping bag and pillow). Reserve cabins in advance at (800) 710-2267. Make sure you provide the campground location which is the “Randal Creek Recreation Area" near Pickstown, SD.

8th Annual Motorcycle Safety Forum - Ames, April 29th

Feburary Update

The BSR Calender sends out an automated notice to everyone, so let me set the record straight - There is NO REGULAR FEBRUARY MONTHLY MEETING. I'm working on the details for March meeting - we are looking (hint-hint Jim) for a heated garage to host it and are hoping to do some tech stuff and have pizza again. Wives, husbands, SO and new members will all be welcome!! Also, we are looking for someone to run a spring safety riding warm-up in April.

The Martin's Jonesin Party last Saturday was the official monthly February meeting and it was a great party. There were 23 riders present. The food was great including the Jo Boy's, Ryan Stillie did a great show of motorcycle photos, I showed photos from Leta and my summer vacation, and then Jeff Sar did a great presentation of his Alaska trip. Jo and Steve really out did themselves this year, thanks!!

Dale Nordlie forwarded me the following regarding the pricing on the new BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL. Its a lot lower then most folks were guessing. Call Dave Bak for official pricing as he has it now.

It's time to port & polish your checkbooks, as BMW has just released prices on its new 6-cylinder model motorcycles. Here's the press release:

BMW Motorrad USA has announced pricing for the highly anticipated 2012 model year K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL tourers. The K 1600 GT will have a base Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $20,900; while the K 1600 GTL will have a base MSRP of $23,200. (Additional destination charge of $495 is not included in MSRP). Both new models will be available for purchase through authorized BMW Motorrad USA dealers this Spring.

I spoke to a BMW Motorrad/NA guy I know at the NY Moto Show and he said they are presold out to Oct build and are quite happy with their pre-sell results.

Well I don't know how much of a 'bash", it is but it is always a great time. So, you are invited. Bring anyone you would like along with finger foods to share. Jo is going to make her famous 'Sloppy Jo's'.

Also, please bring any thing you would like to share that has a motorcycle theme. Movies, videos, games, new parts, old parts, you know, anything.

Personally, I like to hear about and see pictures from motorcycle trips, since the colder it gets, the more I day dream of great rides in wonderful places.

October Club Update

The October Big Sioux Riders meeting was great. We made plans for a good November meeting and President Stan and Jim got our Christmas party organized.

This Saturday, October 23 is Baktober Fest at Bak BMW Victory KTM. Dave says they will be having great deals on bike, parts and apparel.

The Big Sioux Riders November meeting will be a Pizza Party on Tuesday, November 16th. It will be at Jim Johnson's garage at 4615 Old Lakeport Rd. Bring your own beverage and we'll pass a hat for the pizza. Brion (me), who had two flats this year, will cover how to do road side tire plugs, what to use, when to do it, when it’s not safe, and what to do after you get home. After the presentation everyone will have a chance to see if they can plug a tire on a real wheel. Materials will be provided. We have had a couple club members who have had valve failures this year. Jim and Stan, who have some real world experience with this, are going to give a demonstration on how to change a valve stem on the side of a road. As part of the meeting we are also going to be celebrating Jim's Birthday. Rumors are that Lynn may be cooking something special and that Jim might be more than 45 years old.

The Big Sioux Riders Christmas party will be Tuesday, December 14th in the basement of Sweet Fanny's on Historic Fourth Street at 6 PM. The meal will start around 6:30. Meal options will include either a salad, smothered chicken, or bourbon filled steak. As in the past, the Christmas dinner will be provided for paid members and for spouses of family memberships. Non-paid member meals are $12 and they are still very welcome to attend. The Big Sioux Riders is a chapter of the BMW MOA, but we warmly welcome members with any brand. At the party we will be collecting membership dues for 2011. Bring your odometer readings with you. After dinner, we will have annual officer elections, read the "Big Johnson" award nominations and then a vote, and follow that with the annual gift exchange. A gift costing about $15 is recommended. We will send out a proper invitation in November with more detail. Get your officer nominations into Stan Stille. Get your Johnson Award nominations into the Johnson award committee: Jim Johnson and Susie Lee (last year's proud winner of the coveted "Big Johnson"). It should be a fun evening.

The Big Sioux Riders Spring Campout at the Dam (on Mother’s Day), will be May 7-8, 2011. Camping below the dam has worked great the last couple of years so we will continue that if possible.

The BMW National Rally this year is July 21-24, 2010 in Bloomsburg, PA.

Woodbine Applefest 2010

On a Saturday September 25th about noon, during a break in the weather, a group of Big Sioux Riders joined up in Sioux City for a fabulous ride through the Loess Hills to the Applefest in Woodbine, Iowa. At the festival we had some great food, saw some neat antique cars and visited with sidewalk craft vendors. After scoring and sampling some great apple pie at the Methodist church, we left for home. On the way back we were treated to some spectacular rainbows and cloud displays. We had perfect fall weather for the most part. In attendance where Steve Martin, Jo Martin, Al Agrimson, Stan Stille, Jim Johnson, and Brion Hase.

Terry and Cathy showed up with their brand new 2010 Ultra Classic and spent a few minutes pointing out all the gee-wiz type buttons and options in the parking lot (Frump was there for the crash course as well). The group had a somewhat cool, but wonderful ride down to Moorhead.

Hoot Gibson was elected State Commander for the South Dakota American Legion June 20 in Spearfish. A ceremony to honor this occasion will take place in Sioux Falls on Saturday, August 14. The ceremonies will start with a continental breakfast at the Legion (1701 W. Legion Dr.) from 9-11 and will continue at 11:00 with a "caravan" to Memorial Park where a lite lunch will be served from 12:00 - 1:00. The installation will take place from 2:00 - 4:00. Social hour, dinner and dance will take place later. Hoot has invited Autobahners to attend the events. He will be riding in a sidecar for the caravan and would especially like to have Autobahners and their BMW's ride with him. This is a very important position for Hoot and it would be nice for Autobahn to show their support.

RTE July 6th Ride Report

Big Sioux Riders RTE July 6. We rode to Penny's Dinner in Missouri Valley. Jim lead us down the back way via the Loess Hills on a very nice 94 mile ride. We picked up a cruiser rider on the way, who slipped into the middle of our group and matched our nice pace from Smithfield down to Pisgah and then simply waved off as he headed to Woodbine. The automatic brotherhood of motorcyclist is so cool. BSR Riders who joined the evening's ride: Randy R., Jim J., Stan S., Al A., Leta H. and myself - Frump. It was a fantastic evening for riding.

Jim taught the rest of us a new RTE life rule: Make sure you order your pie first because they may be out of the kind you want when you are ready for it. The pies and shakes were both very good.

The next BSR RTE will be July 27th. We will be riding to Yankton. Meet at Casey's in Riverside.

My sister has polycystic kidney disease, both of her kidneys were removed on May 5 of this year. She is a single mom and has been unable to work because of her condition and has no health insurance. We have a "special" ride which will include a stop somewhere for cake.

I got a note this morning from Randy R's wife Karen this morning that Randy had emergency surgery last night at 2 AM for compartmental syndrome on his left calf. Karen says it is touch an go right now as they wait to see if the nerves and tissue damage will recover. He is in room 309 at St. Lukes in Sioux City.

I also recieved a note from Terry H. saying that he had been spending a lot of time with his father lately because his mother had recently passed last week and her funeral was yesterday. Terry is hoping to make it to Stan's last ride as a free man.

One last note. Dan W. made it back to Sioux City last week and is at home now. He is still in a lot of pain but he continues to get better.

Campout/Ride at the Shonley's in the Black Hills July 9th - July 11. The location is exactly 5.1 miles West of Sturgis, SD exit 30. We are planning on you arriving late on Friday evening. We have good lights so you won't be completely in the dark when you setup your tent. You will be able to park your bike inside if you want to. We also have an indoor area for eating and conversation in case of in-climate weather. Plan now is to have breakfast at the Chat & Chew at 7am and start the rides at 8am. Meet back at the house around 5pm. We will have an evening meal and conversation into the night. Sunday mornings we go to Church. You are welcome to go with us. Make sure your bike is in good running order with fresh tires. The roads are very good, well marked, and usually very clean. This will probably encourage you to use more of the edges of your tires, so you want good ones. If people are interested I can setup an adventure run or two. For those with GSs we can do some gravel etc. Just let me know what you want to see. We would like to know if you are coming by June 1st so we can do some planning (Let Brion know and he can tell us). See you on the road.

South Dakota’s most recognized building is turning 100 and Governor Mike Rounds invites you to join in the celebration! Bring the family to the Capitol Centennial Celebration, Saturday, June 19, 2010 on the grounds of the State Capitol to enjoy a day of festivities honoring a revered South Dakota landmark.

Two special events will be held for motorcycle riders and enthusiasts during the Centennial Celebration. The first is a motorcycle show to be held in the Capitol parking lot. Motorcycle owners are invited to display their bikes at the Capitol and enter them in the “people’s choice” award show. The show will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the show winner will be announced later that afternoon at Petersen Motors.

At 2:00 p.m., an observation run is planned that gives riders a chance to visit a number of historic sites in the immediate Pierre area. The run begins at the Capitol and ends at Petersen Motors Harley-Davidson at 4:00 p.m. All correct observation run sheets will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize donated by Petersen Motors Harley-Davidson. The “Peoples’ Choice” bike show winner will also be announced at 4:00 p.m. Participants are also encouraged to check out the 2010 Oahe Days Festival which is taking place at Steamboat Park. The festival features a variety of booths, art, food, and live music.

You can also enjoy a variety of activities including historical tours and seminars, a re-enactment of the dedication of the Capitol, a free beef and pork picnic lunch, an antique vehicle show, a Capitol-themed art show featuring South Dakota artists, kite festival, hot air balloons, fire truck and horse-drawn carriage rides, and kids’ fishing on Capitol Lake.

8th Annual BSR Spring (Mother's Day Dam) Campout

The 8th Annual Big Sioux Rider Spring (Mother’s Day Dam) Campout will be Saturday and Sunday, May 8th and 9th (Mother’s Day weekend). This is an informal campout. Even though we can’t guarantee it won’t snow, friends and fellow riders are invited to join us at Randal Creek Recreation Area near the Fort Randall Dam, Pickstown, South Dakota.

A $10 fee will cover includes camping, firewood and a park vehicle permit fee. Passengers are $5. We will dine as a group at the Fort Randal Casino just east of Pickstown Saturday evening and for breakfast Sunday morning. We will provide some-mores Saturday evening and coffee both Saturday and Sunday to help keep everyone warm. Please bring your own coffee mug.

We can’t reserve camping spaces in advance, but there are very few campers (if any) in this park this time of year. If you get to the campground before us, please grab some camping spaces near the cabins and restroom/showers (sites #27E and #28E). The restrooms are modern with showers. Park rules allow us to have up to 6 campers per site. We will settle with the park ranger Saturday evening.

For those interested in riding together from Sioux City to the campout, meet at Bak BMW in Sioux City, IA 10 AM Saturday morning. Alternately meet us lunch at the Flyway Cafe at the intersection of Highways 12 and 14 in Niobrara, NE Saturday around noon.

There are four camping cabins are available at this campground for $35 per night (plus a $5 non-resident fee for non South Dakota residents). Cabins include a bunk bed (2 singles) and a double bed. You must supply your own bedding (e.g. a sleeping bag and pillow). Reserve cabins in advance at (800) 710-2267. Make sure you provide the campground location which is the “Randal Creek Recreation Area" near Pickstown, SD.

I have enjoyed listening to him talk about historical highways and roadside landmarks for years. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I know on the Lincoln Highway. The event will include a dinner, a live and silent auction and a dance; all to be held from 5:00 PM to Midnight on April 9th.

Tickets will go on sale for the dinner and dinner/dance combination the week of March 15th. Dinner will be served from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and consist of smoked pork loin, smothered chicken breasts, baked potato, green beans, dessert, ice tea, lemonade and coffee. Cost for the meal will be $10.00/adult, $5.00/junior high and under, and free for preschool and under. The dinner/dance combination ticket is $15.00/adult. The dance is free to children junior high and under who attend with their parents. Single dance tickets will be $5.00 per person, 15 years and up. The dance will begin at approximately 8:00 PM – midnight.

The silent auction will be ongoing from 5:00 PM and will close at 10:00 PM. A live auction will be held from 7:00 – 8:00 PM. Auction donations will be accepted through Wednesday, April 7th. I got a call from Steve M a few minutes ago. The Saturday morning breakfast curse of the Big Sioux Riders continues... another of our great, regular Saturday morning hangouts has closed it doors forever. The group contingency plan was to meet at the Crystal Cafe in South Sioux City about 8AM until another location is selected. The Crystal Cafe has been in business for a very long time so let's see if they can survive the curse. A few of us will be up at the IMS show in the Twin Cities, so those who go please report back how it worked out.

I got a call Tuesday evening from Tom Butters (aka Bullet). Tom is is not only a BSR and Autobahn member, but he is also the BMW MOA national club's Treasurer. Tom was sitting on the new R1000SS down at Bak BMW when he called and he wanted to make sure I sent out a reminder to everyone. Starting February 1st (yesterday), the BMW MOA is giving away tickets for one of those monsters (a race-ready R1000SS) for new and renewing members. The deal Tom says, is he doesn't expect the 10,000 tickets to last very long and when they are gone, they are gone.

Tom also wanted to remind everyone of the following details which I just copied from the website: Ticket sales will be limited to only 10,000 tickets to better the odds for the winners and you must request the Superstakes ticket with your membership purchase. Steve Gengler called to let he know that he and some others have planning a bicycle event for this weekend, May 30-31 (Car and Motorcycle riders are also invited). They are meeting in Burbank, SD Friday evening with camping at the church. Dinner Friday evening and breakfast (@7 AM) at Wimp's. Saturday they are riding from Burbank to Niobrara, NE where they will be camping at the State Park for $1 (Plus vehicle permit for cars and motorcycles). The National Park Service is doing a presentation at 7 PM in Niobrara for them on Steam Boats and they are having a hog roast that evening. Big Sioux Riders and friends are invited. Some fun events coming up

Hi all,
Last time I wrote we were expecting a snow storm, that fizzled out. This time over Memorial Day we are expecting rain, hope that fizzles out too.

Although I will be off the bike for the weekend camping with the family, there are some fun rides coming up during the week.
First off on Thursday night 4 June, Brion will playing road captain if I can call it that and leading the way to LeMars for dinner and Blue Bunny Ice Cream (this is a president's requirement, yes i am an addict). Not your typical poker type of run but, I would bet there will be some interesting things on the way.
On Thursday 18 June we will head to Anthon, IA for dinner. There are other rides in July, Thursday 2 July to Merrill, IA, Thursday 9 July to Bronson, IA for bikers night.
Starting place and times will be posted once we have that figured out. Keep watching!
We will be adding another couple of rides as the summer roles on. So be watching this blog for further events and other activities. Have a great holiday weekend, do be careful and most importantly get out and ride.

Autobahner's and Big Sioux Riders: Arlene is looking forward to us on Saturday April 25th. She requested that we be there at 9:30 AM rather than 09:00 AM due to her regular crowd and to have enough room for all of us. She asked that we be patient if we come in with a large group. She seemed very happy that we thought of her cafe for a meeting place. So, Autobahner's if you want to ride as a group plan on meeting at Pilot at 08:00 AM and we will leave at 08:15 AM. According to Google maps and using SD HWY 11 this will get us there right on time. Otherwise meet at Arlene's Sunny Side Cafe, 111 Iowa St., Alcester, SD at 09:30 AM. I forgot to ask if they take credit/debit cards, so be prepared to use cash. Afterwards, we can ride and explore some of the great riding roads nearby.

Thank you Brion for inviting me to write a few lines.

I was reasonably sure that winter had ended. Well the Blizzard Warning for this weekend shows that the bike will have to stay in the garage for another weekend. Weather aside, during these storms it seems that the gravel dumped on the road for our cages is a problem for the bikes. I encourage all to be aware of the corners and curves after this storm passes, and ride safely all year.

A quick note about our monthly meeting on Tuesday night 21 April, it is at Peach's in South Sioux City, Ne. I want to start about 6 to 6:30 as some people need time to get off from work. I know there are going to be conflicts, but we will do the best we can. I was going to go with a set menu, but at this time I don't think I will...

Looks like a fun Summer with some event planned about every weekend. I am really looking forward to going to Pickstown for our Mother's day camp out. I have reserved a cabin as I do not do "sleeping on the ground", unless ordered to do so. I would like to see a big group up there and I have a feeling that the weather will cooperate. At least no blizzards. Until Later,
